OUR HOME
Growing on slopes, set amongst the natural beauty of the surrounding mountains, are the superb quality Clear Range Truffles.
Bordered by the Murrumbidgee River and the ACT’s Namadgi National Park, this family run truffiere (truffle farm) was established in 2013, with the planting of two varieties of certified inoculated oak trees.
The area experiences very warm stormy summers and cold frosty winters – perfect for growing quality Australian Black Truffle.
OUR STORY
The first Clear Range truffle was unexpectedly stumbled across in 2017, causing great excitement for farm owners Mark and Maureen.
Subsequent years have seen increasing yields of quality, aromatic truffles. These have been supplied with great success to a variety of Canberra restaurants.
We are pleased to be associated with local Canberra and regional establishments and we are very grateful for their support. Our truffles are also distributed nationally and internationally through wholesale marketers.
Clear Range Truffles are currently produced without the use of chemicals. This is a practice we strive to continue into the future.
EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH
The most important member of the Clear Range Truffles team is Amber, our 6 year old Australian Kelpie Truffle Dog.
Amber came to us as a three year old who had previously been trained by the Australian Army Dog Unit to sniff out underground explosive devices. Retrained as a truffle hunter, Amber loves her job – and it’s obviously much more fun unearthing a delicious smelling truffle than that other stuff she was initially trained for!
Amber thrives in the outdoor environment and it is never difficult to entice her out into the paddock on a cold wintery morning – the same can’t always be said for the humans who have to go out there with her!
